Nate has been in his program for a month and a half now and we are still trying to get used to it. His schedule goes like this, up at 4 A.M. out of the house by 4:30 and home at night by 6:30, 7 maybe later. When he is on call he goes in at 4:30 stays the night (usually not sleeping) working all night long on trauma. Then the next day after a sleepless night he will roll into the house around 10am or noon and sleep most of the day.
As for us, well it is defiantly a change, we are trying to keep ourselves as busy as possible, but the boys still cant figure out why dad is having sleep overs at the hospital? They should write a book about how to survive residency as a wife(or maybe a single mother for 4 years). Weekends are no longer weekends in our house, Nate usually takes call one of the 3 days if not 2 of the 3. Sometimes there is a break in his schedule and he gets the entire weekend off!!! Yeah (seriously so exciting!) So what do we do take advantage! This past weekend was one of those great weekends.
Saturday we let Nate sleep in, we ate breakfast and headed to the zoo, me and the boys had been there before, but we wanted to show dad what he was missing out on. After the zoo and naps, we loaded up the car and headed down town for a family bike ride by the river. It was so nice and a perfect path for the family. After our bike ride, we headed home for some pizza and a movie. It was a perfect day!
We really are surviving on the not so perfect weekends, its just better when Daddy is home.
