Power Again!

I wasn't ready for this picture, Mason this is for you (the tree that blocked his satellite for years is now down!)
Right by our back door, lucky it wasn't another limb and land in our back door.

Hurricane Ike sent an intense windstorm (up to 75mph) our way Sunday morning, leaving over 340,000 residents without power, they say this is the worst blackout in history! The report on Monday was 10 to 14 days until power is restored through out Louisville. Trying to stay positive about the whole situation we were able to heat up leftovers from Saturday night on our ever so prepared friends camp stove (thanks Carters). The rest of the time we tried hard to finish off anything in our fridge and throw away all that went bad. By Monday morning we ran out of hot water and were grateful for the YMCA. So Coop and I headed for the gym Tuesday, got a nice work out in, a nice hot shower, I was able to charge my phone for a bit while I blow dried my hair. It felt so nice to be able to enjoy electricity for a few hours. By late Tuesday afternoon I was on my way to buy a nice camping stove so I could at least boil water for dishes and what not and got a call that our power was back on, YEAH!!!! I feel ever so blessed that we only were without power for 3 days while there are still hundreds of people with out it. And probably it will last up to 14 days for some people(even though I hope not). A big THANK YOU to our friends Jeff and Ali who fed us all Monday when we were without power and to our friends Bryce and Megan who let us plug in our deep freeze at their house so we didn't have to throw away all of our meat.

On Sunday evening we went for a drive around and the city, it was so dark it was erie, there were only a handful of gas stations that were open, leaving lines out on the street waiting for 20 to 30 mins. to fill up , and only 25 Kroger's out of 100 that had power. I couldn't believe it. Word was that all of our power trucks had been in Texas. (They were called back shortly after the wind storm blew through). After seeing so much destruction caused by wind and tree damage, I could only imagine what was going on in Texas, yet so much worse!

I learned that I can go a few days without doing laundry, vacuuming, surfing the net, and having the AC on. The weather this week couldn't have been more perfect, there has been a cool breeze and not too much humidity, which helps when you have to keep all the windows and blinds open in your house all day. I actually got a lot done around my house that have been put off, Organizing toys, bedroom closet, reading (yes I am still not done with the Twilight series) and spending allot more time playing with Cooper. I did find that I didn't miss the T.V. one bit, so I think I can live without that. Although it takes allot longer to wash a whole dishwasher by hand than it does to turn it on. But hey at least I have a dish washer right.
Cooper loved watching the big trucks drive by with tree limbs in the back and all the kids playing outside, since the schools have been canceled for the week.

Oh, my. I need to take a trip over there and check out the "hood" while I'm here. Thanks for the up-date. I flew in on Saturday and missed the power outage, thank goodness. Yes, we all need to prepare, prepare,prepare.....today I'm thankful for electricity.

Way to hang in there- here in Texas we stocked up, but thank goodness we missed the brunt of the storm!
