THE WEANING BEGINS

(Huh, you talkin bout me???)

It all started a few weeks ago when I thought I had this perfect baby who slept through the night. (From 8:30 until about 7:30-8:00 a.m.) When all the sudden he was waking up every 2 to 3 hours during the night. Well I don't know about all you other moms, but when my baby was sleeping through the night and then all the sudden waking up, I was not such a nice mom, I started to become the cranky mom that even when she does get her son back to bed she is still upset and cant go to sleep because she is trying to figure out why he isn't sleeping through the night anymore. Yeah hate to admit it but that was me for the past few weeks. I just could not figure it out, he has recently switched from sucking his thumb to a Binky so I just thought it was that, then I thought he was teething, but everyday was different. So the frustration continued....

Until one day I started to notice a little white thing in his little mouth and the excessive drool on everything. Yep my son has teeth. Not just one but two! So after the long nights of no sleep and the long days of no sleep they finally cut through. Yeah 2 down 18 more to go!!
Finally he has gone back to his perfect ways and is sleeping through the night and taking good naps during the days. Perfect ways I thought! Instead he is just like any other guy, the first thing they do when they get new tools or gadgets they like to use them all the time (meaning his sharp little tools in his mouth). Yep I have been bit! Bit again and again and agonizingly again. He thinks its pretty funny when mom yells while he is working with his tools trying to cut through very soft tissue. Needless to say I am starting to wean him much earlier that I thought I would. I must say I am really going to miss breastfeeding him, I love that bonding time with the little biter. I am still going to try and feed him every morning and night until about a year old. I guess we will see how the biting goes.

What did all of you do? Stories, advice, comments I would love to hear it. (I will try to get a picture of his 2 little teeth and post it, they are so cute, yet so painful!)

I hate when they bite, hate teething and hate when they don't sleep through the night!
As far as teething: I LOVE the teething tablets! Especially when Taylor IS teething and she knows they help her!
Sleeping through the night: it's always hit and miss in my household. Some weeks she slept like a champ then others not so much!
Biting: When she started biting me I would tell her no then stop nursing. She would be so mad at me, but she figured out that feeding time is just that, time to eat! Not play with her new chompers! She also started biting a TON when I started to lose my milk. She was still hungry and there was nothing there for her so she would bite out of frustration. I stopped breast feeding at 10 months (lost my milk) but really I think it was time!
Good luck!

Well Danelle doesn't have teeth yet- 2 months, but she has done a bite or two just recently so I (kinda) know what you mean. And what are your tricks w/ Cooper 4 sleeping so well? Danelle's had like 2-3 nights in a row of 7 hours, then the last 3 nights, she's up every 2-3! Of course I had been all excited thinking she was doing good, and I too sit and think, ok what did I do different this time...!!! What were his naps like at 2 months do u remember?

Oh man, I feel for you. Emi has 6 teeth now...and boy is she a biter. I really thought that I was going to have to wean her too. I just stuck with the telling her no and stopped nursing her when she did it. This took two weeks of pain...but it finally worked. Now she only bites when my milk takes awhile to come in or when I don't know if she is really done so I keep attaching her just to make sure. She likes to tell me she is done by a little bite. Ouch. So it is very frustrating and very painful but I'm glad I stuck with it because I was not ready to stop either, but mom's know best! Hope this helps somewhat.

That picture of Cooper is as cute as can be! What?!?!?! Teeth??? Can't believe how much he's growing :) Miss you guys---hopefully I'll see you soon.
p.s. Brett went to dental school in Louisville and is not in his residency in Chicago. Things are going VERY well with him; he's great.

LOVE the picture! Cooper is so cute, here is one thing i've learned from Coral, babies aren't machines, they're little people that have their own desires - their desires sometimes aren't even close to ours! I used to do the same thing you do- get so frustrated I couldn't sleep either! Since Carson hasn't slept through the night FOREVER, I don't know what to do about that. But, I don't get frustated anymore in the night, I just try to nap in the day!

Victoria is now breaking in 4 teeth at the sametime. When she started to get her teeth at 6mos and she did bite, I just told her not to bite and took the breast away. She cried and after a few minutes I let her have it again. I continued to take it away whenever she would bite me and she got the picture that when she would bite me she did not get to eat. I still nurse her at 13mos and me being pregnant. I only nurse her at night and morning. I used the bitter biscuit and she loved them and of course Tylenol. It is hard but try to tell him not to bite and take it away. He is not too young to be disciplined and he will learn I promise. I wish you luck.
